Dan Brittain; has bookplate on outside front flyleaf and his name embossed on the cover. Includes many notes from him. c.5 donated by Toney Smith. Some mold damage, but none seemingly active. Zion, Ga. c.28 owned by Harold Jackson of Ranburne, Ala. Includes slip of paper with songs listed as “choices.” c.29 owned by Hugh McGraw of Bremen, Ga. c.30 marked “Defective, 155-186 missing.” Strangely tight binding, possibly representing a separate, unidentified state. c.32 owned by John T. Hocutt of Jasper, Ala. Has list of songs, possibly minutes or song choices, taped to outside front flyleaf. Lacks inside front flyleaf. This copy has been covered in a rubber-like protective overbinding. States: c.1-16, 32 bound in full cloth, marbled red with a glossy finish. Cover title is in sans serif font with uncurved quotation marks, similar to some 1960 editions. Bright white paper in the text block in most but not all copies. Order of front matter: Original Sacred Harp 1944-1971 (with portraits)–title page–dedication–Preface–Music–Introduction and History of The Original Sacred Harp–Rudiments. Printed by Kingsport Press and with the Publishing Company address listed as Cullman, Ala. c.17-23 bound in green boards with decorative covers featuring the 1844 edition title page on a marbled green and yellow background. Generally creamy paper in the text block. The facsimile title page serves as the cover title (Gothic font for “Sacred Harp” and “Suited to most Metres”, otherwise Latin). Order of front matter: facsimile title page from 1844 book; title page; Original Sacred Harp 1844-1971 (with portraits)–title page–dedication–Preface–Music–Introduction and History of The Original Sacred Harp–Rudiments. No mention of manufacturer; Publishing Company address listed as Bremen, Ga. c.24 similar to 17-23 but with blue and white cover rather than green and yellow, and text block in darker cream paper. c.25-27 bound in tan or beige boards. Cover title has “Original Sacred Harp” without quotation marks and in a Gothic typeface different from that of the 1844 facsimile title page used in other editions. Text block has relatively thin cream paper. Order of front matter: title–title page–Original Sacred Harp 1944-1971 (with portraits)–dedication–Preface–Music–Introduction and History of The Original Sacred Harp–Rudiments. c.28-31 bound in dark brown boards with mock leather texture and tape spine of the same color. Binding cover varies slightly, possibly simply because of fading. Text block in light cream paper, thicker than c.25-27. Cover title has “Original Sacred Harp” without quotation marks and in a Gothic typeface, the same as c.25-27. Order of front matter: title–title page–Original Sacred Harp 1944-1971 (with portraits)–dedication–Preface–Music–Introduction and History of The Original Sacred Harp–Rudiments.
